Hmm, scratch that - the failure reappears again even with this feature disabled in bios. But apparently it only happens with usb3 hard drives. I'm completely puzzled.

After that (even if it was unmounted and removed) it becomes impossible: the system goes to suspend briefly (for bout 1 second) but immediately wakes up for no apparent reason.
