Thank you for the suggestion. I have now updated the BIOS to the latest version 205.
Ubuntu no longer boots. It gets stuck on the ubuntu boot screen. With the ubuntu logo and the small dots below it. I am still able to boot Mint and the problem is not fixed in Mint. Let me know if I can do anything else. I will try to explain the problem I had before the BIOS update. If I press the keyboard shortcuts to change the backlight brightness. Nothing happens. If I change the brightness in the power manager GUI by dragging the slider. Changing the brightness works. If I install the official proprietary Nvidia driver. The slider disappears and there are no other way to change the brightness. I don't know if the following information helps to understand the issue but in Windows the hot keys works perfectly. Although in Windows it shows that the display is using the Intel GPU. While Renderer is set to NVIDIA GPU. And so they are both used together with nvidia optimus system. I don't know how it works in linux but I suspect that it picks one of the GPUs resulting in lost functionality. Regardless the hot keys should work even if only the Intel GPU is being used. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1460088 Title: Backlight control does not work on Asus Zenbook Pro UX501JW / Nvidia Geforce GTX 960M Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hello! Backlight control does not work on Asus Zenbook Pro UX501JW / Nvidia Geforce GTX 960M. What I mean by this is that the hotkeys for the backlight does not do anything. The backlight can be manually set while running on the integrated intel graphics. (Not with hotkeys). The nvidia GPU is not detected until Nvidias official drivers are installed. And after installing that driver (any version) the backlight can not be changed at all. I hope this can be solved! --- ApportVersion: 2.17.2-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: ubuntu 2154 F.... pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: ubuntu 2154 F.... pulseaudio CasperVersion: 1.360 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.04 LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" - Release amd64 (20150422) MachineType: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.
