Joseph, the NVIDIA 340.76 driver won't build with Linux v4.0-rc7-vivid and nouveau since Linux 3.8 broke suspend for NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (and a bunch of similar cards) so testing suspend with v4.0 is a bit of a mess.
But I went back to v3.7.10-raring, which I know should work, and I've nailed down the problem to the JMicron JMB363 SATA/IDE Controller being in "AHCI+IDE Mode" instead of "IDE Mode" in BIOS.
