Can you try installing linux-image-3.16.0-34-generic from the -proposed repo? If that works, this is probably the same bug I had, which has already been patched upstream and in -proposed (but, AFAIK, still not mainlined in ubuntu, except for Vivid): https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42960#c57 Could be related: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/utopic/+source/linux/+bug/1313804 and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1093644 Do NOT use the workaround mentioned there, just install the newer kernel image.
