Dear Chris, thanks for the tip. I upgraded my bios last night and will see if the problem re-occurs. However, I have been having lots of other problems and started using a newer kernel to keep my machine in working condition, while I haven't been pointed to this bug report again. So I won't be able to tell whether the bios update did the trick or a different kernel, or whether it was a once-off problem. Sorry!
