Thanks for your prompt advices, Christopher.

Sorry about the attachment spam. My attachments from Dell Optiplex 960 are not
valid for this Zenbook issue so I hid them (though I updated Dell's BIOS as you
suggested).
I tried to reproduce bug #989443 with Ubuntu 13.04 (and succeeded partly), and
didn't understood that it would flood this issue. I'll direct my gathered
information to the right bug.

This bug can be marked as expired again.

Title:
HDMI out doesn't work with ASUS Zenbook UX31E

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Ubuntu crashes when I try to use ASUS Zenbook UX31E HDMI out (with Asus
VS239H). It works nicely with console and LightDM login screen, but when I log
in to Ubuntu/Ubuntu2D, screens (external and internal) go blank.
Restarting LightDM usually works (works as in "you'll see the LightDM login
screen again), but sometimes this hangs the whole system.

  Things you need to know:

  1) lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
  Release: 12.04

  2) apt-cache policy linux-image-3.2.0-24-generic
  linux-image-3.2.0-24-generic:
    Installed: 3.2.0-24.37
    Candidate: 3.2.0-24.37
    Version table:
   *** 3.2.0-24.37 0
          500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main amd64
Packages
          500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-proposed/main amd64
Packages
          100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

  3) I expect that X doesn't crash and I see output on both (or at least
  one) displays.

  4) X crashes, both screens turn black. Sometimes external monitor
turns red. Console usually works after the problem. LightDM has to be
  restarted.

  WORKAROUND:
  echo SATA_ALPM_ENABLE=true | sudo tee /etc/pm/config.d/sata_alpm
