Merge subtitle is not implemented so far. With an upcoming Kdenlive version: Whisper; allow setting a maximum character count per subtitle. On Bugtracker (https://bugs.kde.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=kdenlive), please open a whishlist request (under Severity) for “subtitle merge” or other features subtitle related.
