Hello Jamie and Evert;
General Public License (GPL) does not make a software "free as in beer"
but "free as in freedom".
Kdenlive application download & use is not charged by Kdenlive project
and official website, where it is publicly available, but this fact has
no relation with GPL. It's a Kdenlive project decision.
FOSS can be sold and buyed, but can't be restricted if anyone wants to
share it for free (no money).
There are other FOSS projects that official website requires a money
payment to download product, and it's GPL licensed. After this, they
can't restrict you to share software (no permission required, no payment
required by author).

Hi there!
Kdenlive is licensed under the GPL.
This makes it free to obtain & use, even in a corporate setting.
There are no restrictions on the output of Kdenlive as well.
Where it gets a little murky is if you decide to charge for training on
Kdenlive, which you legally could.
You can also charge for the medium that you distribute the program on,
but you can never charge for the software itself, as the aim of the GPL
is to keep the software free.
There should be no licensing concerns whatsoever, however to put your
mind completely at rest you should talk to an actual lawyer or your
legal department if you have one.
Kind regards,
-Evert-
