So, I conclude that colored sections are not supported yet in KDenlive. It
would be a really nice option, though and many DAWs (not sure about video
editors) support it.

It came to my mind yesterday: you can create an invisible track (uncheck the
film header icon) and place there color clips...

 Hello, All -

A kludge to accomplish this somewhat is to make a transparent image (let's say
zone.png, 1920x1080), add it to the project bin,  duplicate it for the number
of zone types you wish, and rename them as needed.  Now, you can drag the,
perhaps, "GOOD" zone onto a track at the top of the timeline and stretch it to
fit your needs.  Likewise with the "BAD", and so on.

Being transparent, they do not affect your view, but their clip names (as you
set them above) should be evident (there may be a setting to show clip names in
the timeline or not - I'm not sure).

Here's something I just cobbled together

 Just an idea!

Hi Bernd,  İ am not aware of any color based zone marking in Kdenlive. i have
only used guides for categorization. İf someone knows of a way, would be nice
to share.

Just a little question: as there are tags for clips I wonder if there is a way
to mark zones in the timeline by color? My use case: my movie is currently too
long and I try an approach of applying categories like
  1: not so good
  2: ok
  3: very good
to zones; afterwards I'd like to go back and maybe delete all "1" zones and
some of the "2" zones to get to the desired length. Now, how can I get these
1/2/3-categories marked in the timeline? Currently I use guides of different
colors, but they only mark the beginning of a zone.

Thank you for any ideas how I can improve my workflow :-)

  Best,
  Bernd
