I have just uploaded an updated AppImage:
https://files.kde.org/kdenlive/unstable/kdenlive-18.04-rc2.AppImage.mirrorlist
That now contains translations and should fix an effect related crash
(caused by a recent change in MLT git).
Please test if this fixes your problems.
