auto-hiding it's not good imho, it's not natural and users would be confused (and personally i want to see the timeline while i play with the preview monitor). a button could be the right way > When the timeline is hidden, either the video preview would utilize the free > space, becoming bigger, or the video could always be big with the timeline > transparent over top of it.
