There's probably always the possibility to use the screenshotting utility from another DE, or even a standalone one. Or if you're handy with compiling, building the last known working version yourself (if it's provided as a more or less standalone component). Do I understand correctly that the window has started auto-centring each time it (re)appears? That sounds more like a behaviour that someone considered a feature rather than a bug ... R.
