thank you; i had tried that already via "systemsettings," which stated
that the file indexer wasn't active, even though the option to enable it
was ticked.
what i hadn't done before was untick it, click on "apply," then tick it
again, and again "apply." this worked, and the indexing service is now
actually running :)
