Since the LXDE desktop knows how to configure a display with my hardware, shouldn't I be able to somehow capture that information and feed it into kde to get a display?
Can't do it. What you need is to change a yes to a no (or 1 to 0, or on to off, or similar) in a file somewhere in ~/.kde4, if you or someone else can figure out where. Or you can do what I already suggested, disable composite globally as I wrote 11/11/19 22:05 -0500 Another option is in your Grub menu, the failsafe option, which uses nomodeset, which in turn will result in use of a generic video driver. That will be slow if it works at all, and it probably will work. You'll probably prefer the global disable option due to the radical slowdown compared to the NVidia's hardware driver. It's also possible that there is a proprietary driver you can install. That would be covered among the SDB URLs previously provided. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
