Dears,

for a RC1 it is well done and will be competitive when shipping out! We’ll get
a big boost in the upcoming season, I think!

I’m working here from FreeBSD15 (CURRENT) and had to built kernel and
userspace, as I gave one of my older hardware a chance, it’s just a duo core
with 8GB RAM and took two days.

Afterwards there was no conflict between qt5 and qt6 in the elf-header-library
and with lightdm I could start plasmashell.

What’s working: systemsettings6 , surprisingly fast and good, but in search for
global theme nothing appeared. Maybe the API is broken with this old laptop
without battery.

Firefox does well and I could normally sign in!

But, and now for the RC1 it’s good to get it run anyhow, no apps can’t be
installed!

Let’s say you want gwenview, put a ‘pkg install gwenview’ in, all plasma6 ports
would be deleted and plasma5 wants to be installed. Even with konsole.

Furthermore, if screen is locked (I put the sleep option outta), it just comes
back with an empty screen, no pic, no re-sign-in possibility.

No widgets are running: put comic strip into the desktop, downloaded some
comics (this was okay!) but on apply or OK plasma just crashes, but reenters.
All the old widgets are gone, telling me that in need for newer version.

This has been my first impression, I guess lotta work to do with translating
qt6-* packages, but AFAIC it will be a wonderful system, when somehow finished
up.

Good luck,🤞

Liz

P.S.: on linux it will probably be an RC2 still and more stable than with BSD,
I have Manjaro and after all most of the qt5-packages have been replaced by
qt6-* with every system setup. I do this on an Intel Mac and kernels are known
to work slower than on a PC, because of EFI structure and SMBios. It took me 2
hours for example to get grub2 working, not just taking the first entry
blindly, afterwards my Mac mini 8.1 is damn fast in processing.
