I noticed that KDE3 konqueror fails to copy files that have '*' in their names. And also Audio CD ripping module of k3b can't rip a song if target filename has '?' in it. These are concrete examples, but I suspect that some place in KDE doesn;t properly handle shell metacharacters in file names.
