In a tree view that also allows for fine grained sorting control (aka, only sort the tree node you clicked on) It's already in the context menu. Context menus are expert features, though. Making it view-dependent is an interesting idea, but I'd worry that having it disappear when Detailed Tree View is being used would give users the idea that said view isn't sortable.
