I can't see our KDE patch collection going away whilst we still have Qt5 apps shipping. We have patches that Qt haven't backported that we deemed important and it'd be more work to get distros to swap back again. It doesn't cost anything to keep it there.
It will probably get fewer and fewer backports until it's just security fixes, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. David
