Afaiu it violates FRC 4648 which allows further RFCs (MIME) to weaken restrictions, but itself forbids it: "Implementations MUST reject the encoded data if it contains characters outside the base alphabet when interpreting base-encoded data" [, unless the specification referring to this document ...] So for a generic implementation, (even trailing) CRLF are illegal chars. => +1 for having the default behavior compliant (and maybe a parameter to add a trailing CRLF) Cheers, Thomas
