What he suggests is to add a spacer into a panel and move a root parented XEmbed override_redirect container there. That's trivial enough (the spacer only needs to watch geometry changes of the container) but the outcome is of course ridiculous - and hardly any different from adding wmsystemtray somewhere on your desktop.
