Regarding binaries or installation, you should better ask this in a forum or mailing list of your distribution. Mixing distribution- provided and self-compiled versions can lead to all sort of problems if not done correctly, so binaries made for your distribution are always preferred. You can get the sources via ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable but integrating them into the distribution is not trivial. In the worst case, you might need to replace/update all KDE packages installed on your system with self-compiled versions. You might also consider switching your distribution. You cannot have both "bleeding edge", as well as "tested for two years before release", but between those two extremes, there are many other candidates that might suit your needs, see e.g. https://wiki.debian.org/DebianTesting Christoph Feck (kdepepo)
