Thanks again for pointing me to QPcap. It seems to be actively developed, easy to use and complete.
Using QPcap seems to be the best solution. Developing the application would be quite easy, however implementing the same amount as Wireshark is lot of work. This seems to be good for a GSOC, isn't it?
