Can confirm the bug.
The issue is the selector not assigning internally the "exotic variants" (those
in evdev.extras.xml) to the correct layout, but to the BQN layout (which has
no variants) instead, an so the setting fails since it is a non-supported
combination.
The workaround assigns the variant to the right layout ("us" in this case) as
it should be, so everything works.
