Confirmed on macOS with 5.2.3 and 5.3.0-prealpha-1c2c28d1, it also happens with
5.2.2.
To change it back to 8-bit and prevent the crash, open
~/Library/Preferences/kritadisplayrc and remove the line
'rootSurfaceFormat=bt2020-pq'.
