I first tried booting the new Plasma environment from a USB stick with the most
recent Neon User image, which worked without any issues. I then tried upgrading
my installed Neon User system to Plasma 6 using Discover, which did not give
any error messages, but after completing, it was not possible to shut down or
restart via the menu - nothing happened when clicking Restart or Shut down.
After restart via shutdown -r now in the terminal, the system boots and SDDM
loads correctly (though with the 5.27 wallpaper) and it is possible to log in.
When logging in, I observe the things listed under OBSERVED RESULT below.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Upgrade KDE Neon to Plasma 6.0 and related dependencies
2. Restart system
3. Log in
OBSERVED RESULT
* No panel on either screen (I have two external screens of the same brand and
model and the laptop screen is disabled as I have previously set it to be)
* No background wallpaper
* Firefox opens with the windows I had open in the previous session and works
as usual
* I can launch Konsole and Dolphin using keyboard shortcuts and both
applications work as usual
* I can launch LibreOffice by double clicking a LibreOffice document in
Dolphin, but the application doesn't have the Breeze style when it opens (which
it did in 5.27)
* The applications that do work have their usual border and frame (A previous
update a few years ago seemed to uninstall Kwin, but this doesn't seem to be an
issue now)
* The Overview function works using its shortcut and it is possible to open
some apps via the search field at the top
* Krunner doesn't work using its associated shortcut
* System Settings and Discover do not open when trying to launch them via the
Overview search function
* If locking the screen using the shortcut, there is just a message that I need
to go to a TTY, login and type loginctl unlock-session 3 and then go back to
the graphical session (doing this works, although only with the F3 TTY and not
the F2 TTY)
EXPECTED RESULT
The desktop should be fully functional as it was before upgrading.
