            Bug ID: 480587
Summary: RFE: Add preference to only use exiftool for metadata
                    for video
    Classification: Applications
           Product: digikam
           Version: 8.3.0
          Platform: unspecified
                OS: All
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Metadata-ExifTool
          Assignee: digikam-bugs-n...@kde.org
          Reporter: fr...@macfreek.nl
  Target Milestone: ---

Since 8.0, Digikam has the ability to write metadata to MP4 files. This uses
exiftool instead of Exiv2 as the backend.

In order to enable this, a user has to go to Preferences > Metadata >
Behaviour, and check the "Delegate to ExifTool backend all operations to write
metadata".

My request for feature enhancement (RFE) is to have the option to "Delegate to
ExifTool backend operations to write metadata for file formats not supported by
Exiv2". In other words, add an option to Digikam to use Exiv2 tool for writing
metadata to (most) image formats (anything that is supported by Exiv2 [1]), but
use exiftool for movie formats (and anything that is not supported by Exiv2,
like HEIC images).

The reason for this request is that while exiftool supports more formats (and I
really love that feature, thanks devs!), Exiv2 is much faster for many files.
