Hm assistant previews were disabled on purpose because someone considered it a
bug that they were shown for tools that don't support assistant snapping:

But I agree that just because the tool can't snap to it does not mean the
preview is useless, it still helps aligning stuff manually.
I remember there were some issues with it though, it didn't really update
properly because most tools are really lazy with decoration updates.
