SUMMARY
I updated my Neon Unstable VM after 2 weeks and after rebooting the entire
screen is white (hardware acceleration enabled), if I turn hardware
acceleration off I get a black screen instead. I thought it was some kind of
update error so I downloaded a fresh Neon image but unfortunately it's still
white. Since I only updated two weeks after the last time it must be a recent
regression. Maybe related to color management? I couldn't find any problems on
GNOME Boxes (which uses QEMU), only on VirtualBox. Before, I did notice some
effects were white squares as well (for instance, the cursor's launch feedback
or when maximizing windows). Maybe VirtualBox drivers are missing support for
some kind of color format, but it was mostly normal before. On the SDDM screen
the cursor is also a white box with a black background. Changing the Virtual
GPU doesn't help either.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Download the latest Neon Unstable ISO (tested with Dec. 12th ISO)
2. Enable hardware acceleration in the VM settings on VirtualBox
3. After reaching the invisible SDDM screen (you'll see a white square where
the cursor would be), press Enter to log in.
OBSERVED RESULT
The screen is completely white. If hardware acceleration is disabled it becomes
completely black.
EXPECTED RESULT
The session is at least usable, even if select effects don't work, as it was
before.
