I reinstalled KDE connect 1.29.0 from F-Droid today on two of my devices (after
un-pairing and clearing all application data). And mounting seems to work fine
now with GSConnect 55 (55+108+gea56bcfe-1, which should be the head of the
master branch at the time of writing). (OpenSSH 9.5p1) On both devices (Android
10 and 13) the SSH connection is established, and the appropriate directory
under /run/user/$UID/gvfs/ appears. I have never had any workarounds in my
local SSH configuration, and I also haven't touched ~/.config/gsconnect/

As a sidenote, with the Android 13 device I'm getting "Permission denied"
errors when I want to even just list the contents (the "access all files"
permission is given).
