Bug ID: 475138 Summary: Two UI/UX features to assist in tag organization Classification: Applications Product: digikam Version: 8.1.0 Platform: Ubuntu OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: Tags-Manager Assignee: digikam-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: ges...@blackrosetech.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY *** Tags can easily get a little out of control and a hierarchical structure is a lovely way to get a handle on that tag clutter however, organizing tags into such hierarchies after the clutter has taken over is unnecessarily tedious. A few fairly simple UX modifications in the tag organizer would facilitate easier tag management. 1) Drag tags into the quick access list and drop on a quick access tag label to get the usual Move Here/Merge Here/Cancel options 2) Add a filter tags text box for substring matching. This should not filter out the currently highlighted tag - that is you select a tag, type a substring into the filter box and the Tags list shows only matching tags PLUS the highlighted tag. b) you can now drag the highlighted tag and drop onto the appropriate tag in the easily navigated filtered tag list, usual dialog confirmation fires. 3) Replace the Tag Properties icon with the currently selected tag icon and make that draggable enabling another drag-n-drop mechanism for organization: a) select tag "muffins the cat" mistagged under higher level tag "Places" (tag properties pane populates with tag data including the tag icon of muffins the cat to the left of the "Tag Properties" text) b) from the organize pop up, select Collapse Tag Tree (Muffins the cat tag remains selected, but is not not visible in the tag tree as the "Places" hierarchy is collapsed) (or alternate, filter the tag list using #2 above by typing "cat" in the filter box) c) drag the Muffins The Cat tag icon and drop on the "Cats" top level tag to correct the tag hierarchy error due to earlier mistagging. 4) Drag that new Tag Properties icon and drop it on a Quick Access List tag to organize it. 5) add tag icons to the Quick Access List as the visual representation can help remind us of what the tag is about. 6) add a right click "Move tag" option to the right click pop-up menu that expands to all the top level tags that have at least one sublevel. That is omit all the top level tags that have no-sublevels as that list would be as long as the collapsed massive tag list, possibly thousands of entries, but limit it to any top level tag that has at least one tag under it, drop it on that tag for the usual confirmation dialogs and ease of organization. *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Autotag a lifetimes pictures 2. Tags are in a flat list, there are zillions 3. Kinda useless for categorization because too much infos OBSERVED RESULT Datas are so unorganized as to be of limited use EXPECTED RESULT Datas easy to organize for optimal uses.
