SUMMARY
I have hardware incapable of running wayland (proprietary drivers that only
receive security updates).
The device has a touchscreen with IMU correctly mapped and accessible with
iio-sensor-proxy.
Only wayland sessions have automatic device rotation available.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. use xorg session
2. see that automatic device rotation is not available
EXPECTED RESULT
autorotation is available in both xorg and wayland sessions

Linux/KDE Plasma: Ubuntu 23.10
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.7
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.109.0

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I was able to find that @romangg was the author of the removal of
orientationsensor from drm https://phabricator.kde.org/D26036 and then also
addition to the kwayland backend
