Right, because we use opacity for the text.
I'm not convinced this is really a problem, or if it is, that it's worth the
effort to fix, though. We use lowered opacity for text pretty much everywhere
and we would have to commit to doing something different in all those places.
You can always move your pointer elsewhere so the highlight effect disappears,
as you mentioned. So there's a fairly simple workaround.
