Bug 318357 addresses the problem of grouping filenames with different schemes,
not only versioning but also. So possibly to be able to group different file
names as plugins and not to integrate every grouping problem individually.
Well, I can make your bug standalone again, but like bug 338882, it's a low
priority at the moment, there are more important things to do.
Maybe next year we can get a GSoC-2024 student to work on it.
