The behavior is by intentional, the remaining space is reserved for view
options (digiKam settings-> View) such as title tags etc.
In the left sidebar under Properties you can see the full name or you can
activate tooltips above the thumbnails.
Since there are users who also use file names with more than 100 characters, 2
lines are not an option either.
