I can't reproduce the problem here on Windows 10 with my NEF files either. Note
that these settings only apply to the image editor, not to the image preview.
Image preview is always run with auto brightness, we have a bug report to make
this configurable.
Two things to note, the change will only be applied the next time the image is
loaded, not to the image just loaded.
And when you call up the image editor again, you will only see the "old" image
until the new one has been loaded.
