Also, as a quick hack, try to comment out this line in the .qml file and see if
it helps (restart Plasma after that):
Plasmoid.status: hasMultipleKeyboardLayouts ?
PlasmaCore.Types.ActiveStatus : PlasmaCore.Types.HiddenStatus
