Bug ID: 469192 Summary: Plasmashell frequently starts up with no background image, no desktop icons Classification: Plasma Product: plasmashell Version: 5.27.4 Platform: Manjaro OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: major Priority: NOR Component: Startup process Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: sergio.calleg...@gmail.com CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk Target Milestone: 1.0 SUMMARY On a system with the following setup - Intel haswell laptop with integrated graphics - Using X11 - External monitor attached and set as primary monitor - Built in screen set as not enabled I frequently have the following issue. When a user logs in at the sddm screen, plasma starts. However, it fails to set the background image (I get a black background) and to load the desktop icons. The bottom panel is displayed, though. As a workaround I can press ALT-F2 get the runner, type `plasmashell --replace` and with this plasma always restarts correctly. The issue is frequently seen (much more frequently, I would say) when switching to a second user. I have been seeing this issue since Manjaro switched to plasma 5.27 or possibly even earlier. This issue is just a minor nuisance to expert users who know how to restart plasma, but a total showstopper for users without this knowledge. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. log in at sddm OBSERVED RESULT Plasma frequently starts failing to load the desktop barground and the desktop icons EXPECTED RESULT Plasma should start correctly.
