Not at all, if JPEG as XMP sidecar, the sidecar are read if option is turned on
in metadata setup.

In digiKam 8.0.0, we have introduced the metadata profile management in the
Advanced Settings page. Look the online doc here :

This kind of feature can help to configure digiKam metadata engine for your
use-cases.
