Hey there! Unfortunately to help we're going to need a bit more information.
Some of the most useful stuff you can give would be a crash report, see this
link for how to do that:

The next best thing would be to be as specific as possible. Can you provide a
screen cap of the 'create new' screen before the crash? What sort of hardware
does your laptop have on it?
Personally this sounds like a GPU canvas acceleration problem. Can you go into
your Krita settings and find "canvas acceleration" and set it to 'software' and
see if the problem persists?
