Though, for USBs, I'd advise full-disk-encryption instead of using Vaults (cryptsetup-based). But I guess creating an encrypted drive can be more tedious than using a Vault. @Carlo For cloud stuff sync (apart from the downsides you mentioned), doing a sync of encrypted data means that all your devices share the same encryption key (not only the passphrase, but the internal key used by the encryption algorithm). Now, cryfs author did design it with cloud in mind, so I might be overly restrictive here...
