--- Comment #6 from SigHunter <sighun...@gmx.de> ---
for me, this problem went away after I made sure the gentoo USE flag
USE=wayland is set globally for all packages and recompiling the concerning
packages

[ebuild R ] media-libs/vulkan-loader-1.3.216 USE="wayland*"
[ebuild R ] x11-libs/libxkbcommon-1.4.1 USE="wayland*"
[ebuild R ] dev-qt/qtgui-5.15.5 USE="wayland*"
[ebuild R ] x11-libs/gtk+-3.24.34 USE="wayland*"
[ebuild R ] media-libs/libsdl2-2.0.20-r1 USE="wayland* gles2*"
[ebuild R ] kde-frameworks/kguiaddons-5.95.0 USE="wayland*"
[ebuild R ] x11-misc/appmenu-gtk-module-0.7.3-r2 USE="wayland*"
[ebuild R ] media-video/mpv-0.34.1-r1 USE="wayland*"
[ebuild R ] app-misc/fastfetch-1.5.5 USE="wayland*"
[ebuild R ] mail-client/thunderbird-bin-91.11.0 USE="wayland*"
[ebuild R ] www-client/firefox-bin-102.0 USE="wayland*"
[ebuild R ] kde-frameworks/plasma-5.95.0-r4 USE="wayland*"
[ebuild R ] kde-plasma/oxygen-5.25.2 USE="wayland*"
[ebuild R ] media-video/vlc-3.0.17.4 USE="wayland*"

Not sure which package of those made it go away, but now the start menu opens
on the left bottom, like it should!
(it's not my bug report, so I can't/won't close it)
