I now see that the leak occurs whenever my desktop geometry changes. Without an external monitor attached, two kded5->X11 client connections are leaked every time I change the display resolution on the laptop screen. This was exacerbated before by some instability in my external monitor connection which apparently caused it to disconnect every 10 minutes while on the lockscreen. I don't have that same problem on this new laptop, so now my leaks occur only when I connect or disconnect from my monitors manually.
