Bug ID: 453318 Summary: Scanner access not working with Canon PIXMA TR8520 device Product: Skanlite Version: 22.04.0 Platform: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: grave Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: kare.s...@iki.fi Reporter: natalym...@rocketmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY *** NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug symbols. See https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports *** I have a Canon PIXMA TR8520 multifunction device which comes with is a scanner, printer, copier and fax machine all-in-one system. Ubuntu 22.04 automatically installed a driver that is working with its printing function, so that I can send documents to my printer through the USB port. Yet, it appears that it did not automatically install scanner support for my device. So, when I open this Skanlite application on my desktop, I get an error message saying: "Sorry. No devices found. The SANE (Scanner Access Made Easy) could not find any device. Check that your scanner is plugged in and turned on or check your scanner setup." I tried to resolve this error message by looking up my scanner in the SANE project's website to find out what package I needed to install in my computer, in order to get it to work. By doing that, I discovered that sane-escl.5 works with my Canon PIXMA TR8520 scanner. (I found this information at http://sane-project.org/man/sane-escl.5.html.) Then, I tried to find out what I could install in order to get sane-escl.5 installed in my system. So, I found a page in the Ubuntu manual that told me that sane-escl.5 was included in libsane-common package. I made sure that this library is installed in my system, but it still won't work! I had permissions set for this application in the software store and gave it permission to do what it needed to do. So, that was not the issue! STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. I open this Skanlite application on my desktop and, 2. I get an error message saying: "Sorry. No devices found. The SANE (Scanner Access Made Easy) could not find any device. Check that your scanner is plugged in and turned on or check your scanner setup." 3. I press the "reload devices list" button and, 4. I get the same error again. OBSERVED RESULT I cannot use the Skanlite application to access my Canon PIXMA TR8520 scanner that I have connected to my computer via USB. EXPECTED RESULT I was able to use my scanner with Ubuntu Linux up through version 21.10. I would like to still be able to do that and, I would like to be able to use the Skanlite application to do so, because, unlike many other scanner applications, it is marked as safe, in the software store.
