I agree that the current situation is not ideal. Marcin, if you aren't able to
fix the issue, and nobody else can either, we may have to revert the commits.

Flan, Would you be able to submit a merge request to implement your idea?
Caching thumbnails in ~ when ~ is encrypted is reasonable. However I'm still in
favor of one of the original ideas which is to cache the thumbnails inside the
encrypted volume itself. I think that solves all potential problems, if it's
technically feasible.
