But unfortunately I get a title bar on top instead which consumes nearly as much space as the tabbar. You say it's technically not possible to implement this idea. What I described in "Step 1" did NOT mean a tabbar which hides automatically and appears on hover. Rather my idea was to simply hide the tabbar permanently and only show it if another file or view gets opened. This is similar to what many tabbed web browsers do.
