            Bug ID: 448390
Summary: Empty application menu entries after startup
           Product: kate
           Version: 21.12.1
          Platform: Appimage
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: critical
          Priority: NOR
         Component: application
          Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org
          Reporter: matthew.li...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
After Kate starteded up (tested only Appimage version) the (system-wide)
application menu entries are disappeared.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Download Appimage version (maybe other versions are affected too) of Kate
2. Add execute permission and start Kate
3. Open application menu

OBSERVED RESULT
Entries in application menu are disappeared. File associations are temporally
lost (if you open a file asks which application you want to open the file with,
and that list is empty too)
Under Gnome all the icons are replaced with the fallback "no icon"

EXPECTED RESULT
None of this nonsense should happen.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0
Qt Version: 5.12.8

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Issue exists under both Plasma and Gnome.
Menu (as well as icons, file associations) can be restored by starting
kmenuedit (no entries are shown) and click on save.
This is quite frightening to observe. Since this causes major disturbances
outside of the application, I marked this bug as critical.
