The wayland session log may reveal more information about what's going on (cause the bug and attach the output of "grep kwin_wayland_drm ~/.local/share/sddm/wayland-session.log" here afterwards) Changing modes on the fly in the Wayland session had some caveats with bandwidth constraints though, which often come into play on Intel hardware.
