I can confirm this for the Nov 26 5.1.0-prealpha (git 4a272ff) appimage on
debian 10.
It does not happen with the 5.0.0-beta2 appimage.
The delay/freeze in my case is about 8 seconds due to using an old computer.
The selected region is pasted correctly but everything outside the bounding box
of the selection shape becomes white.
