Bug ID: 443924 Summary: Screen turns off when login screen shows up Product: kscreenlocker Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: greeter Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: h.k.gh...@gmail.com CC: bhus...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY I updated to Kubuntu 21.10 yesterday, from 21.04. After the update, the login screen no longer works as expected. Normally, the system shows the login screen with its wallpaper background and you simply choose your account, enter your password, and log into your session. However, after the upgrade, every time I boot the system up to the greeter login screen, it always turns off the monitor/screen. Trying to cause the monitor to "wake up" by moving the mouse, turning it off/on with its power switch, and so on does not solve the problem; the screen remains off. Trying to switch to a different terminal (i.e., Ctrl+Alt+F{2..5}, etc.) doesn't help. The *only* way in which I can get my screen back on is to just log into my session. (This is possible for me because I have only one account and the password box always has the focus, so I can just enter my credentials, hit enter, and I'm good.) As soon as you get past the greeter/login screen, the monitor's screen turns back on and everything seems to keep working normally. I'm on kernel 5.13.0-19-generic; I tried a few previous ones, but saw no difference. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Upgrade Kubuntu from 21.04 to 21.10. 2. Reboot the system and wait until the login screen shows up. 3. Observe your screen get turned off. OBSERVED RESULT The login screen can be seen for a fraction of a second before the monitor's screen is turned off. EXPECTED RESULT The monitor's screen is not turned off and instead remains visible all the time. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 21.10 KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.86.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This was only observed on my desktop. I had updated my laptop from 21.04 to 21.10 before working on the desktop and the laptop did not show this problem. A second Ubuntu laptop was also updated and no problem was observed. This bug sounds like it could be related (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442969), as it seems to have some similarities to the behavior I'm observing, except that I don't need to wait for my monitor to go into sleep mode. PS: I'm not sure if this is the correct product under which to file this bug, as the product names/descriptions are not necessarily obvious, so, please, move as appropriate if this isn't it. (I tried searching for login screen and other variations, and the "greeter" seemed to be the most likely candidate.) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
