            Bug ID: 443877
Summary: "Switch tabs on hover" preference appears to not
                    control hovering on tabs
           Product: plasmashell
           Version: master
          Platform: Debian testing
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: minor
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Application Menu (Kicker)
          Assignee: h...@kde.org
          Reporter: j...@forestfield.org
                CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
"Switch tabs on hover" setting appears to be ignored. Tabs behave the same way
regardless of this setting.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add the application launcher to a panel if you don't already have the
application launcher somewhere. Click on the application launcher icon to make
the application launcher appear. The application categories appear in a new
panel on the left and the subcategories or category items are listed on the
right.
2. Right-click on the application launcher icon and select "Configure
Application Launcher..." which brings up the configuration window, then select
"General" in that window.
3. Select "Switch tabs on hover" turning that item on. Click OK to set the
setting and dismiss the configuration window.
4. Click on the application launcher icon, pick a category with a subcategory,
pick that subcategory, then hover over the parent category name now shown in a
tab on the right side of the panel.

OBSERVED RESULT
Hovering on the parent category tab name does nothing.

EXPECTED RESULT
Hovering should take one back to the hovered category when "Switch hover on
tabs" preference is enabled.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Debian GNU/Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.86.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
Kernel Version: 5.14.0-3-amd64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 8 × AMD FX(tm)-8150 Eight-Core Processor
Memory: 31.2 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NV106

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
1. I don't mind that this preference does nothing as I think hovering here is
annoying and a bad UI choice. But if you're going to provide the hovering
preference, it ought to work.

2. Related to bug 433257 the "Switch tabs on hover" preference seems awfully
narrow to me. I can't imagine a user who wants hovering on categories, wants no
control over category hovering (leaving it always on), and does not want hover
action on tabs. How about switching this preference to control all hovering
action in the application launcher? I'd like to turn off the hover action
anywhere in the application launcher so I'd turn such a preference off.
